Shortly after the introduction of the Armor Tool brand, PDI’s IP stakeholders were presented with the opportunity to launch the P7 Peg Clamps (Hold-Down and In-Line) as a Craftsman private-label program. The program centered on a portable folding workbench whose removable, replaceable tabletop work surface was designed and engineered to accommodate the P7 clamp system.

Mike led the engineering and prototyping of the glass-filled nylon work/clamping surface, as well as modifications to the folding stand to allow side and edge clamping with the P7 platform. He also authored the copy and figure diagrams for the user instruction manuals, and managed safety testing with SGS, certification preparation, and factory and order inspection documentation for SHC (Sears) inspection staff.

The project’s large opening order proved extremely valuable in validating the P7 clamping platform and demonstrating its viability at production scale. The program received strong market feedback, averaging 4.5-star reviews before SHC’s retail shutdown and the transfer of KCD brands.
