AUTO-LOCK HOLD-DOWN & IN-LINE T-TRACK CLAMPS

PROJECT BRIEF

Developed as part of a new generation of self-adjusting workholding products, the Auto-Lock clamps were adapted specifically for Rockler’s newly introduced T-Track Table system. At the time, Rockler’s T-track workholding offering relied primarily on manually tightened hold-down clamps and stops, leaving an opportunity for faster, more versatile clamping.

The Inline Clamp originated as a bolt-mounted design developed for applications including the Kreg K4 Pocket-Hole Jig and direct mounting to work surfaces. To broaden its utility, a dedicated T-track base was developed, allowing the clamp to be positioned anywhere along a compatible track while retaining automatic thickness adjustment and preset clamping pressure.

The companion Hold-Down Clamp was developed and launched in the lower-force T5 cam-lock configuration specifically for the T-Track Table application. This reduced the upward reaction loads transferred into the table, helping prevent the aluminum T-track extrusions from being lifted or pulled from the worksurface during clamping.

Aesthetic development had already begun in preparation for the launch of Armor Tool when PDI stakeholders elected to private label the system exclusively for Rockler. The partnership provided an immediate path to market, helped offset early IP and development costs, and validated the product through Rockler’s established woodworking customer base, retail stores, catalog, and e-commerce channels.

The resulting Auto-Lock T-Track Clamp and Auto-Lock Hold-Down Clamp became central components of Rockler’s T-Track Table launch, receiving prominent placement on the July 2014 catalog cover and opening spread. Production validation required only a minor rolling revision to the clamp’s pivot-pin assembly to improve supplier-side assembly efficiency.
