AUTO-ADJUST HOLD-DOWN DOG CLAMP [P7-HH]
PROJECT BRIEF
The P7 Auto-Adjust Dog Peg Clamps were developed as an extension of prior work in self-adjusting clamping systems and track-based workholding solutions. The platform builds on the foundation of Self-Adjusting Toggle Clamps (STCs) developed for BESSEY, combined with die-cast T-Track clamp architectures developed under the supervision and approval of D. Poole and R. Poole.
The Hold-Down (P7-HH) variant is based on a scaled 0.7 Cam-Lock mechanism derived from the STC platform, adapted for a compact, bench-integrated clamping format. A key area of development was the 0.75 in (19 mm) diameter dog peg, where extensive iteration refined the barb geometry to achieve secure engagement in standard dog holes while minimizing wear and preventing material blowout.
The Gen2 program marked the first implementation of the 0.7 and 0.5 scale Cam-Lock mechanisms in a die-cast ZAMAK (zinc alloy) structure tailored for T-Track and dog hole applications. Given the high clamping forces generated, this introduced material and durability risk relative to prior billet aluminum prototypes produced at PDI. That risk was mitigated through extensive cycle testing, with additional stress validation conducted by Craftsman’s in-house R&D as part of a private label program launched during Armor Tool’s early brand establishment.
